What is a Clogged Milk Duct?
A clogged (or plugged) milk duct occurs when milk flow becomes blocked in one of the ducts that carry milk from the milk-producing tissue to the nipple. This creates a backup of milk, leading to a firm, tender lump in the breast. While clogged ducts are common during breastfeeding, they shouldn't be ignored.
Common signs of a clogged duct include:
A tender, firm lump or hard area in the breast
Localized pain or soreness in one area
Swelling or warmth in the affected area
A white dot or bleb on the nipple
Decreased milk flow from the affected breast
Pain that may worsen during or after feeding
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we would love to help you.
